My workshop videos.
I am a locksmith and safe engineer by trade. These are my hobby videos, however. (I don't think my customers would appreciate publication of professional videos!)
And, despite the category of most of the videos (RUclips doesn't have many categories), these are not instructional videos. Don't do as I do, do as others more qualified than I would tell you.

Make-up Mirror Using LEDs
You can't easily or cheaply get incandescent bulbs anymore. So when I was asked to make a theatrical make-up mirror, I had to think up a viable alternative.

Bandsaw Build Diary - Part 9

Other than a few more dust-control enclosure panels, the bandsaw is finished. In this video I speed the blade up, improve one of the blade guides and make the table trunnions.

In this video, the blade guides. After this, I've nearly reached the end of my build (a bandsaw from Matthias Wandell's 16 inch bandsaw plans www.woodgears.ca/bandsaw/plans/index.html). It only really remains to finish all the enclosures, and make and fit the table proper with its trunnions. I'll also be re-tapping the blade guide carriages and speeding the saw up. So there may be one more vide...
Bandsaw Build Diary - Part 7
Просмотров 5 тыс.7 лет назад
My bandsaw build has reached a milestone. I have spun it up with a blade on. I fit the tyres, do the motor enclosure, and the left leg extension/enclosure (the one that doesn't need cutting on a bandsaw). This is the seventh video in a diary series. Next will be the blade guides and more enclosures.

Mounting the wheels to the frame of my bandsaw. We're not finished yet. Part 7 still to come. The copy ring video mentioned here is at ruclips.net/video/J1pmsVypSt8/видео.html

I'm building a bandsaw from Matthias Wandell's 16 inch bandsaw plans (www.woodgears.ca/bandsaw/plans/index.html). This video covers trueing and crowning. Part 6 will cover the wheel mounts. The circle-cutting jig mentioned in the video can be found at ruclips.net/video/1TKCUk8eY40/видео.html, and the copy ring video at ruclips.net/video/J1pmsVypSt8/видео.html

I'm building a bandsaw from Matthias Wandell's 16 inch bandsaw plans (www.woodgears.ca/bandsaw/plans/index.html), and I've reached the stage where I'm building the wheels. Part 5 - trueing and crowning - will follow in a few days. This isn't a how-to video; you need Matthias' channel and website for that. This is a diary of how I approached the build, the challenges that came up, and the places...

I'm building a bandsaw, from Matthias Wandell's 16 inch bandsaw plans (www.woodgears.ca/bandsaw/plans/index.html). In this video the C frame gets glued up. Things are getting a little more interesting now. Look out for Part 4.

At long last I've started building a bandsaw, from Matthias Wandell's 16 inch bandsaw plans (www.woodgears.ca/bandsaw/plans/index.html). This video covers the cutting of the pieces of the C frame. Not terrifically exciting I'm afraid; some videos in this series are aimed squarely at those people who are making this bandsaw themselves. Look out for Part 3. This isn't a how-to video; you want Mat...

At long last I've started building a bandsaw, from Matthias Wandell's 16 inch bandsaw plans (www.woodgears.ca/bandsaw/plans/index.html). This video concerns preparation; mostly card scraping; so I make a card holder. Look out for Part 2. This isn't a how-to video; you want Matthias for that. This is a diary of how I approached it, what challenges came up, and any ways in which I decided to do s...
Trying Out Foam Core For Templates

Routers' bearing-guided cutters (& copy rings) are good for copying shapes; but where do we get the template from? I'm trying out foam core (AKA foam board) for quickly and easily making templates.

Magnetic Levitating Pen
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.7 лет назад
Just playing with some magnets and having a proof of concept go at levitating a "pen". [Later: I say in the video it's best if all the magnets' north poles face the same way. That's fine and it does give you a resting, not levitated position. However, the other arrangement, where the front triangle's magnets have their north pole facing forward and the rear triangle's magnets have their south p...
Dust Collection: Cyclone & Thien Baffle

About a year ago I started a dust collection project with a first stage based on a cyclone and a second stage with a Thien baffle. I got as far as the intro video (on the old camera) and that was about it. After dust buildup prooved to be a problem with the box-joint jig, I had another go. Circle-Cutting Jig for Festool 1010 Router
Great video. I will definitely try this method
Oh dear, overcomplicating something that can be made quite simply and even more accurate than this method.
Thought you'd like this... ruclips.net/video/F6RqKtlXa3Y/видео.html
Dang... you're building a cajon, not a Strativarius Violin. Get on with it and finish it. You're over engineering it to the max! Oh, by the way' it's rabbit joints, not rebates!
Would that be a Stradivarius? Great work thanks John
Seriously?! I thought the Festool copy ring had some sort of quick change lock and just snapped in place?!! Even my cheapo Chinese router has countersunk screws that center the copy ring. This arrangement is beyond ridiculous.
вы там в своей америке все охуели что ли???
I do believe it was Ben Crow from crimson guitars with that super glue hack he has some very good tips and tricks on his channel id recommend heading over for a look also I subbed to your content 👍
Thanks John, I'm planning on building one of Matthias' bandsaws later this year. It's really helpful to see the challenges encountered by someone who *didn't* design it.
"Where n is a very large integer" Lovely. :-) 26" this year.
They make metric Forstner bits? :)
Funny that they won't let you have a stacked dado cutter but run 220VAC to every electrical outlet. TFTV
John, what a beautiful video. You explanation is perfect, ideas are excellent, and viewing is very calming. Thank you for the instruction.
Brilliant! Thank you!
Very Nice design. On my Cajon I put my snare adjustment knob on the outside. I can keep playing without missing a beat to adjust if I want snare or not.
You have a very nice bandsaw.
Really nice video. I have just discover your channel. You deserve many more views and likes.
Nice job, and very good video.
Sir so detail video really thanks for that, but it wud have be a great if you had cover how the adjustment works by moving up down and how it gets locked, was very excited to see that and thought that it will be covered at end of video but unfortunately not.
thanks for your effort. very detailed video. very informative. 👍👍
hello a question, what is the name of the song that sounds at the end of the video?
'This Is The Life', by Amy Macdonald
Thank you very much, now I can make my own cajon
Sangarr..gawekke bajal
there are two reasons for slot screws the first is to prevent over-tightening and the second is if the screw head gets stripped its very easy to file a new slot
Hello, snare Is it better to be long or short?
That'd a good question; and I don't know. There's probably a length that is too short where the wires' vibrations are damped too quickly.
Thank you
Frig me those fingernails are freaking me out!!!
Cześć mógł byś mi przesłać wymiarowe bo chce zrobić sobie takiego cajon pozdrawiam i z góry dzięki
Hello John can you tell me the thickness of the base of your table saw sled I see its mdf. Many thanks
I don't have it any more but I think it was 15 mm.
@@jdeacon27 thank you so much
BTW loved you bandsaw diary and your battenburg cake how is it going btw
You have a 5000$ investment of machinery, to make a cajon worth 50$. What a silly presentation...😠
Thank you!
I've seen tons of videos about how to have an adjustable snare but this was the best, Thank you.
I prefer hexagonal or torx over pozidrive and crossheads. Anyway thanks for demonstrating the workings of a copyring. Nice rack.
I enjoy your videos very much. I'd encourage you to start posting again. The algorithm may be different than what you're accustomed to, but lots of people seem to be coping successfully with the changes. I'd urge you to get back into it!
So I have no equipment or skills. Do you sell these.
Nice detailed video. Liked the right angle drill guide!
My Xbox name is B R 3 A D B I N
The vaccum attaches to the top, the dust enters from the side, it looks like the hoses are connected wrong...
Hola señor John me podría decir qué diámetro tienen los ejes gracias
The shafts had an outside diameter of just under 22 mm. I used bearings with an internal diameter of 22 mm (and the bearing external diameter was 50 mm).
Nice video. Maybe you should choose a different title for your video. It does not reflect the real subject and will not get as many views as it should.
Nice video and a nice subject. However, your remark concerning poisonous MDF make me wonder whether the foam core is any better in that respect.
Hello Yiannis from Athens. My son asked for one of these boxes. Seeing your video I saw these snear wires, if I heard correctly. My question. Where do you get them. Thank you in advance.
They are 'snare' wires, normally found on the bottom of a snare drum. I bought mine at a drum shop. Any good musical instrument shop should be able to help you. Or you could probably get them online from a drum seller.
Where did you get the magnets? can you email me the image of the magnetic range?
I got them from first4magnets.com. Their range is pretty large but it varies from week to week.
Obrigado John! Perfect.
Thanks

Thanks sir
Thank you! This is a little gem of a router video. Learned a lot and it’s just nice!
Thanks.
Random Scandinavian Yes, I agree, it's eggcellent.
Nice video and a great sound in the final product. Do you have the plans available to download somewhere?
If you're on RUclips, there's a link to a web page in the description. And that has a link to the plans. However, I can't guarantee I updated them in the light of any discoveries during the build.
@@DustAndFilings The webpage in the details is a placeholder with no content that I can see.
@@MrWaldorfian Sorry about that. I am in the middle of a move and one of the things that's going is that website. As soon as I get a proper PC again, I'll correct the web address.
Very helpful.... thanks a lot...
Great video.
you are a clever man!
